Start with the exact model
Check the model name on the unit before selecting routing, power or monitoring settings. Original Volt, Gen 2, Max and rackmount Volt interfaces have different controls and channel layouts.
- Connect the interface using a USB data cable and the power arrangement specified for your model.
- Select Volt as the input and output device in your recording software. Match the track input to the physical connector.
- Use microphone, line or instrument operation as appropriate for the source. Enable phantom power only when the connected microphone requires it.
- Begin with low monitor and headphone levels. Set gain while performing at the loudest expected level and avoid clipping.
- Use one intended monitoring path. Hearing hardware direct monitoring and a delayed software return together can create an echo.
Volt 1 and Volt 2
These original interfaces provide Vintage mode and direct monitoring. Volt 1 has one analog input channel; Volt 2 has two. They do not have the hardware 76 compressor found on the x76 models.
Volt 276, 476 and 476P
These models add hardware 76 compression. Compare gain and compressor settings at similar listening levels. Volt 476 and 476P have additional inputs and monitoring options; do not use the Volt 276 panel layout as a substitute.
Volt 876
The rackmount Volt 876 adds expanded analog and digital routing. Verify optical format, sample rate and clocking when connecting digital equipment. Confirm output routing before raising monitor levels.
Volt 2 Gen 2, Volt 4 Gen 2 and Volt 2 Max
These newer models use their own hardware and UAD Console for Volt controls. Check direct-monitor and loopback routing for your session. Loopback captures computer audio; enable it deliberately to avoid recording an unintended application or creating a feedback path.
